Jetour South Africa has confirmed that its G-Series of off-roaders is coming to the local market, TopAuto reported on 4 November. The G-Series currently has only one model, the G700, a large plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV built on a ladder frame. According to TopAuto, local pricing, specifications and the launch window remain under wraps.

Jetour SA told TopAuto that "The G-Series represents an important part of this direction, combining off-road performance with driving comfort and advanced technology", referring to the brand's plan to move further into premium off-road segments.

What's confirmed for South Africa

  • The G-Series is coming, and the G700 is its only model so far (TopAuto).
  • Jetour SA announced the G700 for South Africa from 2027 at its Pretoria gala on 14 April, The Citizen reported.
  • It will be sold here simply as the Jetour G700, without the Zongheng sub-brand name it carries in China (The Citizen).
  • There is no SA price, specification or launch date yet.

The Citizen lists the Tank 500 and Denza's B5 and B8 among its likely rivals.

When it could arrive

In a Moneyweb feature sponsored by Jetour and published on 2 November, Jetour's engineering team said it expects the G700 to arrive in the third quarter of 2027. The same feature says right-hand-drive engineering is under way, local homologation hasn't started and the final South African specification is still undetermined. That is the company's expectation, not a confirmed launch date.

International specifications

These figures are for cars already on sale in China, the Middle East and elsewhere. South African cars could differ.

  • Powertrain: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and two electric motors, with all-wheel drive (TopAuto). CarExpert lists 155 kW and 340 Nm for the engine, 510 kW for the electric motors, a two-speed transmission, and 665 kW and 1 135 Nm in total.
  • Performance: 0–100 km/h in a claimed 4.6 seconds, TopAuto and CarExpert report. DriveArabia says Jetour's UAE figure is about 4.8 seconds.
  • Battery: a 34.13 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack from CATL, according to CarNewsChina.
  • Electric range: 100 km on the WLTC test, CarExpert reports. For the same battery, China quotes 150 km on its CLTC test, CarNewsChina says. Jetour Engineering's reference figure in the Moneyweb feature is about 100–110 km, with no test named. In China, a 2027 version adds a 59.45 kWh battery rated at 260 km (CLTC).
  • Charging: up to 170 kW DC (CarExpert), plus up to 6.6 kW of vehicle-to-load power for appliances and tools (Jetour Engineering via Moneyweb).
  • Size and weight: 5 198 mm long, 2 050 mm wide and 1 956 mm tall, on a 2 870 mm wheelbase (TopAuto). CarExpert gives a kerb weight of 3 070–3 200 kg.
  • Off-road: 230 mm ground clearance, 900 mm wading depth and a 2 500 kg towing capacity (Jetour Engineering via Moneyweb). TopAuto says the Chinese car has a triple differential-lock setup and air suspension.

Prices elsewhere

CarNewsChina says the 2027 model starts at 329 900 yuan in China. In the UAE, DriveArabia lists four trims from AED 169 000 to AED 229 000, and Jetour Saudi Arabia lists it from SAR 199 990. Taxes, duties and specifications differ between markets, so none of these prices is a guide to what it will cost here.

What reviewers say

CarExpert's Matt Campbell drove it in China. He wrote that "It looks amazing" and praised its space and power, but said the soft suspension lets the body move around a lot and that you need to be mindful of physics in corners. He also found the third row tight and the glossy console buttons hard to read in sunlight.

DriveArabia called it "one of Jetour's most convincing products yet". It liked the composed ride on air suspension, the good sound insulation and the cabin quality. But the mass and high centre of gravity showed when changing direction quickly, and it found some of the driver-assistance warnings intrusive.

Our take

Jetour's claimed range suggests that owners who charge at home could do much of a short daily commute on electricity, though real-world range in a three-tonne SUV is likely to be lower. Once the battery is down to 25% or less, CarExpert quotes fuel use of 8.6 L/100 km (TopAuto gives 8.8 L/100 km, without stating the conditions). So how often you can charge it will make a big difference to your running costs. When local pricing is announced, you can compare it with other plug-in SUVs in our EV calculator.

What to watch

  • SA pricing and specs: which trims, seat layouts and battery sizes Jetour brings.
  • Timing: whether Jetour's third-quarter 2027 expectation holds once homologation starts.
